View from my hammock

Sitting in a hammock on the front porch.
There are talking birds and cooing doves in wooden cages hanging in the trees.
They have a a bird similar to our blackbird, that can learn to say simple words and makes funny whistles at us while we talk.
It's about 80 degrees and breezy.
The ocean water is a nice cool- lukewarm temperature.
I just walk across the yard to get food,
And it's all fresh seafood home-cooked by the family that lives here.
I get a big plate of rice and sweet and sour vegetables with fresh shrimp for 70 bhat (2.00)
My neighbor in the bungalow next to mine, is a dutch dredging engineer.
So far there is only myself, the Dutch guy and a fellow from new zealand staying here.
Apparently it's good I got here early because this place fills up completely by christmas.
The dutch fella next door has done Christmas here a couple times, knows some of the people and the good places to see.
We get along pretty well so he was willing to show me around and that made things alot easier.
I've met a couple Dutch folks now, and my last name being a Dutch name has helped strike up some interesting conversations.
I learned that the Dutch once colonized the east coast, New York was called New Amsterdam, and most likely I got my name as a descendant from the early Dutch settlers.
Last night I spent most of the evening talking with an attorney from Scotland and his Irish wife.
Having Scottish ancestry and growing up the son of an attorney was an icebreaker, and we all ended up having fun talking and listening to music outside at a beach bar.
It's neat meeting people from countries I have ancestry in, and it's interesting to see the similarities that still exist...
