So we are on our way to the Eden party being held in one of the most remote and beautiful spots on the islands. You can only get there by boat or a long bumpy expensive ride from a 4x4 truck if you can hire one.
it is on a part of the island with only and a beach to land boats on.
First we had to hire a boat.
Only one we could find was being driven by a 17 year old kid and his 2 ten year old brothers.
The boat was just an old wooden boat with wooden benches and a huge motor and rudder.
I had decided not to bring my camera and that's good because all of us guys have to get into the water to push the boat out into the ocean until we were waist deep in water, holding onto the boat when waves hit.
Then we climbed aboard and were off.
The two young kids sat in the bow of the old wood boat and yelled out when a wave came sideways so we could steer into it.
Soon we landed and began to disembark onto a beach in the dark.
As I climbed up out of the deep water I caught my toenail on coral and just ripped the puppy right off. The whole nail.
Now friends, in salty water that's quite a shock to the system. The pain was pretty extreme.
Well, understanding the danger of infection in this climate I blocked out the pain by getting mission oriented.
Another thing to mention is, that was the last boat for the evening.
This part of the island has no ATMs or Internet or paved road. Just a couple bars, houses and maybe a shop. there was no question I was there for the long haul.
Also a buddy of mine here, Richard, has medical training and was helpful when I noticed myself being in a bit of a daze from shock.
So we saw a light up the beach we knew to be a bar.
We took a seat and I bought a 100 proof Shot of vodka and asked for bandages but all they had were napkins.
Then I gritted my teeth and washed the wound out good with the liquor and wrapped it up good with napkins.
By this time it had stopped bleeding.
At this point Richard spoke up and said we need to get to a store. After asking around we were told where a shop was open.
We hiked over to it and I bought medical alcohol, swabs, gauze tape,
And all that. I got outside and cleaned and dressed it real well.
Once I got it fixed up proper I felt much better, and the pain only lasted maybe two hours and then just went away!
So now we had to find the Eden party and we started hiking.
It turned out be an endless climb on twisting rock stairways and dirt paths,
Until we saw lights on the top of the mountain.
To be continued...
