Culture lesson

Its really funny the things that happen here.
Tonight I went into an outdoor bar to have some shrimp and rice.
By the way, all restaraunts are "bars" here.
A british couple in their thirties came onto the decking to have a beer.
All the bars are made of decking floor and roofing on beams but very few walls. The buildings are mostly open air with bamboo weave mat huts or brick rooms attched.
As his wife played pool ( yes- bamboo huts, but a friggin pool table, welcome to asia.)
The husband went up to the bar.
I couldnt eat up all my fried shrimp so I went up to the bar also, to give the rest of my dinner to the kids in the hut.
You never waste food here, instead you offer it to kids or locals, its not strange to do that here, they always accept very happily and if your staying in a town very long, you can build little friendships this way, they are pretty innocent, and unashamed about needing food, and the people are particularily fond of little intimate gestures like sharing food, or pats on the shoulder.
As we both went to the bar, a very drunk and laos girl in a miniskirt sat down between us.
Now anyone who has paid a little attention to the culture here knows NO respectable laotion girl would ever be in public with a skirt above her knees.
This woman was a drunk prostitute just like Ive seen a hundred times now.
She put her hand on the mans shoulder and slurred "sabbadee baah"
and signaled with her body for him to sit down.
He was trying to talk back to her and getting only lao blabber, and he kept asking her what is sabbadee bah?
Since I was standing there through all this, I quietly told him, "sabadde baah"
Is respectful hello for females, For men it is "baahn" its like "hello sir."
I didnt bother telling him that the only reason she was touching him and chattin it up was because she was looking for a john.
Let alone what his wife would do if she understood that this wasnt just a "tipsy, but nice asian girl" trying to have a cultural experience with her old man...
