Helping out

The bungalows I'm staying at also house the family that owns them.
One day we saw the old man trying to bury a waterline which had become exposed by the surf.
It was obviously very hard work for the older man so we took over and buried it for him.
When you stay here you stay in the families living area, and even though we cannot converse we all try to have little talks during the day.
The grandmother is a sweetheart and whenever I return from my day she says "hallo! Where you go?"
I tell her about my day and even though she doesn't understand me she smiles and chuckles and days "oooh! Good good!"
The grandmother chews the beetle nut (that's how it is pronounced but not spelled)
When you first see it it is a bit disturbing.
It has a blood red juice that is usually smeared around one corner of her mouth and when she talks her mouth is stained red and her gums are packed with a red mush.
The nut she is chewing is a stimulant similar to our tobacco, but stronger they say.
Very bizarre to see I have to admit...
